The Constitution Was Divinely Inspired | 06-01-26

Sam Bushman breaks down a remarkable nationwide church lesson from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints focused on the Declaration of Independence, the US Constitution, religious liberty, and moral agency as part of America's 250th celebration. Sam connects it all to the founding principle that liberty is tied directly to keeping God's commandments and that happiness means living within His plan, not chasing worldly things. Then he wraps up with three wild news stories: two Dan Sullivans running for the same Alaska Senate seat, real estate agents fleeing a cooling housing market, and Google's plan to release 32 million lab-engineered mosquitoes in Florida and California. [00:00:04] Broadcasting live from atop the Rocky Mountains, the crossroads of the West. You are listening to the Liberty Roundtable Radio Talk Show. Happy to have you along, my fellow American, Sam Bushman, live on your radio and TV hard-hitting news. The network reviews to use always continues now. You know, last segment I had a Lowell Nelson campaign for Liberty.org doing a phenomenal job,

[00:00:33] and we talked about Tina Peters being freed. God bless the fact that she's free. Thank heavens for that. We talked about fully informed juries. We talked about Donald Trump now taking the lead. He's taking center stage because musicians won't perform at his 250 celebration. What a sad tale to tell, in my opinion. But I want to talk about something that happened yesterday at church for me, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. And it happened for everybody across the United States as well.

[00:01:02] The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is conducting nationwide lessons and discussions focused on the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, religious liberty, and moral agency as part of the 250th celebration. You know, Donald Trump ought to get behind that somehow, right? But anyway, I really want to commend the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for this. I went to church.

[00:01:32] They had a whole hour focused on it at church. It was very, very, very good. Church leaders teach that the Constitution was divinely inspired, that the Founding Fathers were raised up by God Almighty for their role, and that constitutional principles help protect freedom, faith, and individual rights for all people.

[00:02:01] I really think that's valuable. And that's very cool, right? I mean, for all people, not just people who live under the Constitution, but for all people. It teaches these fundamentals for all people. There are several bullet points that they hit on and several points that were made. So what they did is they had some videos from some of the leaders of the church. There was two attorneys, but there were also prophets, seers, and revelators, apostles for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,

[00:02:29] that gave the video presentation. And then, of course, as you know, President Dallin H. Oaks is the president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and he was a well-known attorney and Supreme Court justice and everything else for the state of Utah, as far as I understand. Now, there's key bullet points that I really want to talk about here. However, the church recently provided a fifth-week lesson package for congregations.

[00:02:57] It was a video, and so they spoke for, you know, 15 minutes or so and highlighted some of the fundamental principles. And then what they did is they said, we want everybody to break out into their small discussion groups across the United States and discuss these things. And the lesson materials basically teach that the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution helped create conditions in the United States that protected religious liberty.

[00:03:27] That's important. And then they talked about it enabled the restoration of the gospel as the Church of Jesus Christ sees it, right? It was Todd D. Christopherson and Quentin L. Cook that gave the remarks. And they basically talked about how the Declaration of Independence was so unique at the time, but most importantly, how it really focused on that we get our authority from God.

[00:03:56] God is the ultimate sovereign, and he gives us inalienable rights, making we the people sovereign, and that governments are instituted among men for our protection. Okay? That's what the Declaration of Independence says. The Church teaches that God established the Constitution, right? For the rights and protections of all flesh. And they cited a scripture for the members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Doctrine and Covenants 101 for that.

[00:04:25] But it's really important, right? When you think about what the church is teaching here. President Dallin H. Oaks, he's an attorney too. So we're talking about three well-known attorneys that believe in the Constitution and believe it was a document created by men with the direction of God. He's taught that members have a responsibility to learn, uphold, and defend constitutional principles.

[00:04:55] Just think how tremendous that is for a prophet to say to all the church, right? That's really important. Okay? The church teaches principles such as individual rights, equality before the law. So when we say all men are created equal, look, when we say we're all created equal, that doesn't mean we're identical. I mean, I'm blind and other people aren't. That's certainly not equal. But what we mean when we say created equal

[00:05:24] is that we've all been given freedom to choose. To choose good over evil, right over wrong, truth over error. And anyway, they talk about separation of powers, federalism, and popular sovereignty. There's a lot of discussion points that were had. So anyway, they made a lot of these points. They talked about the vital understanding that the Constitution is the supreme law of the land.

[00:05:59] I'm trying to think of the best way to present a lot of this. There were so many discussion points. One of them was that, you know what, that God's promised us that the liberties we have is directly tied to our obedience to God's commandments. And whether we use our agency wisely to obey God's commandments or not, it's up to us. We can choose. But if we choose God, we choose liberty. And liberty and obedience to God's commandments are directly tied to the land.

[00:06:29] And if you keep the commandments of God, then you'll be protected in this land of promise, if you will. And if you don't keep the commandments of God, you'll be swept off. You'll lose your land. You'll lose your birthright, if you will. Right? It's a really important discussion point to think about. And so it's vital to understand this. And the idea is you cannot hold on to the land if you're not a righteous person. If we as a people are good people and righteous people, then we'll be protected and prosper in the land.

[00:06:58] And if we don't, we'll eventually lose our land and be conquered. We'll lose our protections, and we'll lose our land. It's a covenant with God. And you can say, that's crazy, Sam. That's just based on your Mormon scripture, your LDS scripture, your Church of Jesus Christ. No, go look at the Bible if you don't believe me. It says, if you keep my commandments and repent and turn to me, God says, I'll heal your land and protect you. That's as biblical as it gets. Right?

[00:07:28] So the church is participating in the America 250 celebrations. Yeah. They're doing it with all kinds of things. Patriotic events, education. They dedicated the Sunday hour to that for everybody. Now, understand something. I want to make this very clear.

[00:07:57] Leaders emphasize that while members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints regard the Constitution as inspired of God, constitutional principles such as liberty and protection of rights are blessings intended for all God's children, all of humanity. That's really important too, right? Anyway, it's really exciting. So as America approaches its 250,

[00:08:26] the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints launching these massive efforts. Anyway, so after they gave this incredible talk about this, they highlighted that the founding fathers talked about life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. And then some related the pursuit of happiness to property because they were going to, in the beginning, going to do life, liberty, and property, but they went with life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. And people asked why? Well, if you look at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints doctrine, the Book of Mormon,

[00:08:56] another Testament of Jesus Christ documents, really, that if you keep the commandments of God over and over, then you'll be blessed on the land. And if you don't, you'll lose the land and you'll lose your protection. Well, I bring that up because it's interesting. The founding fathers were going to say life, liberty, and property, but they changed it to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Well, in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints religion, we believe that God has a plan for his children. And that plan is known as the plan of happiness. What does happiness mean? Does it mean you can pursue a Maserati?

[00:09:26] That you can pursue illicit sex and drugs and rock and roll and live today and, you know, don't worry about tomorrow. Eat, drink, and be married for tomorrow we die. No big deal. No, it's not happiness according to the founding fathers. And it certainly isn't happiness according to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Happiness relates to the keeping the commandments of God. Living within the plan that God has set forth for us. What is that plan? That plan is that he's our father and we're his children. And we don't look to government for solutions. We look to God Almighty.

[00:09:56] And governments are righteous when they have God-style commandments. Not just laws that protect some and benefit some at the expense of others, but rather we do well when we have laws that match God's law. Right? Thou shalt not kill. Thou shalt not commit adultery. Thou shalt not steal. Do keep the Sabbath day holy. Do honor your father and your mother. Right?

[00:10:26] There are good things. Do love God first and foremost. Do love your neighbor as yourself. Right? Those things are the key. Anyway, I bring this up because there were some great conversational points. I'll finish on that. And then I've got a couple of news stories that are interesting for you today as well. I'm Sam Bushman. You're listening to Liberty Roundtable Live. Hopefully it's educational and entertaining. LibertyRoundtable.com. We also do videos as well. Check it out. Rumble YouTube. Truth Social. We're everywhere. Spread the word. Liberty Roundtable Live.

[00:10:54] Are you watching what's happening in our country and asking, What can I do? Join the John Birch Society in Salt Lake City June 6th for a powerful one-day conference. The day includes a host of respected speakers, two meals, and meaningful connections. You'll gain clarity on the issues and walk away with practical steps you can take to your community. Reserve your seat today at jbs.org forward slash slc26.

[00:11:22] That's jbs.org forward slash slc26. Abby Johnson was once director of a Planned Parenthood clinic in Bryan, Texas. After a moral crisis, she quit, and now she campaigns against what she once endorsed. They implement abortion quotas in all of their clinics. What do you mean, quotas? You have to perform a certain number of abortions every month. One of the reasons that I left... Are they explicit about that? Yes. It's in your budget. Right there on the line item.

[00:11:51] One of the reasons I left Planned Parenthood was because in a budget meeting, I was told to double that abortion quota. And for me, as someone who had spoken to the media and had said, You know, we're about reducing the number of abortions. We're about, you know, prevention, all of these other services. I was shocked. So since you actually worked at a Planned Parenthood, give us some sense of the relative number of abortions. Okay. Abortions, Planned Parenthood provides over 330,000 abortions a year.

[00:12:20] They are the largest single abortion provider in our country. All right. Back with you live, ladies and gentlemen. So anyway, they gave some great, great points. These attorneys and leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on how the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, they were godly documents created by man under God's direction.

[00:12:49] God raised up these men to do these wonderful things, to bring freedom to the United States and to create a free and independent nation that looks to God, not government, for solutions. And it's God's law that is the key and the cornerstone of this reality. And they made the point that it's all based on our agency, preserving our rights to choose. And if the points were made in North Korea and other places around the world, you don't have rights to choose. You're caught reading the Bible. You're caught thinking for yourself or speaking out against the government.

[00:13:18] Whatever, praying, then, hey, you'll die. Or you'll go to a camp and labor for the rest of your life and that kind of stuff. Liberty is critical. And as we celebrate 250, and this is why I mentioned these artists backing out, what a sad tale. Stand up for America. Look, I don't care if Trump's in office or Barack Obama or Joe Biden or whoever, Kamala Harris, whoever we elect. If they're president, I might not be pleased with their decisions, but I will celebrate

[00:13:47] America because it isn't about the people we elect to serve. It's about the country. It's about religious liberty. The most important liberty of all to worship how, where or what you may. But it's important to realize that we need to preserve agency. That's the right to choose and to not suffer consequences like death for praying kind of thing, right? It's important. So anyway, these leaders made these great points about this, and then they turned it over to local congregations and local groups to discuss.

[00:14:17] And there were a lot of great points made about this. Some of them I've already made, but there were several of them. I basically made the point, listen, this is not political. A lot of times people believe the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence. That's political. In fact, I remember going to the Congress and I went into the congressional proceedings one time in Washington, D.C. And I got to the door and I asked the lady, I said, hey, do you love the Constitution? She's like, man, I can't talk about that. That's political. I'm like, what?

[00:14:46] What are you talking about? Look, folks, my point is this is not political. The Constitution is the supreme law of the land. And it documents principles, godly principles that are for all mankind, for the protection of religious liberty and for agency worldwide. And yes, those principles are upheld more so in America because of the Constitution, our supreme law than other places. But the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights absolutely lay down this

[00:15:15] truth, this opportunity for principles to be taught around the world. And it is divinely inspired. In fact, it should be the political religion of our nation. But I want to make this point. It shouldn't be political, though. It isn't Republican. It isn't Democrat. It isn't liberal. It isn't conservative. It isn't independent. It's American. It's godly. And so I kind of made that point. Think about the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence is more like the who, what,

[00:15:45] when, where, and why of what matters on the earth today. Who? We, the people. What? Agency. Ability to choose. And the protection of that, right? Who, what, when? As soon as the founders rejected England and put it in place. So who, what, when, where? The United States of America. And hopefully export it around the world.

[00:16:13] We want to be a light on a hill and export the supreme law of the land and the supreme principles to the world that God has set forth through righteous men and women. That's what we believe. So who, what, when, where? The United States. Why? Because if you lose your liberty, you lose everything. And fundamentally, it's a simple principle God teaches biblically that if you keep the commandments, he'll protect you and he will heal your land. And if you don't, you're going to lose the land and you'll lose your protection.

[00:16:44] And go look at the, you know, historical reality of the children of Israel. If you want the point made over and over and over and over until you're blue in the face, there it is. But as America approaches its 250, we want to celebrate. And I don't care who is president. To me, that transcends all politics. I believe the Constitution is inspired. And I believe other nations would do well to heed those principles therein.

[00:17:14] But I will say that, you know, each country has to make their own decisions. But the more we keep the commandments of God, the more protected we'll be on the land. That's a vital, important principle to understand. I'm trying to think if there's anything else really important to highlight in that. The plan of happiness was a very interesting comparison, I thought, realizing that at the core of this is agency. And it doesn't mean agency to embrace my religion.

[00:17:44] It's we want to let everyone worship the way they believe is right. You know, if you believe differently than I do, that's okay. I want my beliefs protected. And I need to go to bat to protect your beliefs or your beliefs as well. If they're different than mine, that's okay. See, we should understand these things. The founders did. And we can too. All right, there's a kind of a funny story I thought I'd bring to your attention before the end of the hour. It's called Name Game in Alaska.

[00:18:13] There's a guy by the name of Dan Sullivan. And Dan Sullivan is a current senator. But in an unusual twist in Alaskan politics, two candidates now sharing the name of Dan Sullivan are contending for the same U.S. Senate seat, adding confusion to the primary elections.

[00:18:36] So the guy's incumbent Republican senator, Dan S. Sullivan, is versing or facing newcomer Dan J. Sullivan. I just found that quite interesting. Who are you going to vote for? I'm voting for Dan. Yeah, so am I. You're voting for different candidates. And I agree it could create confusion. Some are saying the conspiracy theorists are saying, oh, that was intentionally done to create confusions and dilute the vote. Others are saying, no, it just happened that way.

[00:19:06] This guy's, you know, he wants to take on the other guy. He feels like he's a bad guy. And it just so happens that he has the same name. It's just very unusual. And that's why I bring it up. Anyway, I also want to talk about real estate agents. Turns out the real estate agents are exiting. The housing market's slowing down. And it's creating new finance opportunities for folks. The U.S. housing market continues to face pressure from elevated mortgage rates and affordability

[00:19:35] challenges, leaving to fewer sales. And so a lot of agents are leaving the industry altogether. They just can't make it. A lot of them are letting their licenses just kind of lay dormant. Industry data shows that real estate membership has fallen significantly from its previous highs. As many agents struggle to generate enough income in a slower, melting-down market, some economists are expecting interest rates to gradually move lower as economic growth cools,

[00:20:05] creating potential refinancing opportunities for homeowners that are currently paying mortgages of over 6.25 interest rates. And financial experts are basically saying, hey, you should try to refinance your mortgage. You should look for lower interest rates. Just make sure you do the research to make sure in your case that you're getting enough bang for the buck when you do. But do so. I thought that was a very interesting story. And I pray that interest rates lower over the next several months and years.

[00:20:34] Because I'm telling you right now, it's a very bad environment. Home prices are expensive as all get out. There's not enough homes on the market because too many illegals are here. When if we have 20 million illegals here, they've all got to have housing, right? Less housing for the rest of us. Puts massive upward pressure on the cost of homes. In addition to the high interest rates and high building costs and high everything, due to inflation, it's a disaster. So hopefully there'll be some relief coming on that front. Anyway, people are also starting to use AI instead of real estate agents.

[00:21:04] That's kind of interesting, too. Just thought I'd bring that to your attention. Next story of interest before the end of the hour that I must get to. Google pushes plan to release 32 million lab-treated mosquitoes across two states. You heard me. Google pushes plan to release 32 million lab-treated mosquitoes in two states.

[00:21:31] Google is now seeking federal approval to release up to 32 million male mosquitoes carrying, and I don't know how to say this, wildacea bacteria in parts of Florida and California over the next two years. What the heck is going on?

[00:21:57] Researchers say the mosquitoes are designed to reduce disease and the disease-carrying mosquito population because offspring from mating with wild females in these, I don't know what you want to call them, manipulated mosquitoes mean that mosquitoes won't be able to survive.

[00:22:25] Okay, so if you mate these engineered mosquitoes with the wild mosquitoes, then, hey, the mosquito population decreases. The EPA, they say, is reviewing the proposal and has not yet issued a final approval. All I can tell you is that's just whoa. And to me, the problem is if you do that on both coasts, how long will it be until both mosquito populations kind of spread to the middle of the country?

[00:22:51] The last thing we need is engineered animals by man mating with and destroying the populations. You know, God wants things to grow. So, I mean, if you go look at the Bible and you look at the creation, things are supposed to, you know, God commanded them to prosper, to regenerate, to create after its own kind, if you will. This circumvents that. So God wants to promote life and perpetuate life.

[00:23:19] Man wants to stop life, get rid of life. It's parallel to the abortion industry. It's parallel to God trying or man trying to be, you know, over God or whatever you want to call it. It's disaster. But anyway, I'm just telling you, the EPA is working on this stuff. And it's just weird stuff. I don't understand why the EPA, though, the Environmental Protection Agency would be doing this. Anyway, weird, weird, weird, weird.

[00:23:48] I guess there's an AI spending shock in the news. Company reportedly burns $500 million. In one month, they failed to cap their employees' use of AI, and they had to spend a half a billion. What began as a push for AI productivity turned into a financial wake-up call. A consultant claims that one company spent $500 billion. And the report comes as businesses nationwide grapple with soaring AI costs. And they're all starting to kind of step back and go, how do we get a handle on this?

[00:24:17] We just can't have this going on. Too expensive. We got a look at Roy, return on investment. By the way, I give AI instructions on this very topic. NetworkProvidersInc.com if you want to learn more about that. Anyway, I digress. Thanks for being alongside with the ride. I'm Sam Bushman. God save the Republic of the United States of America.
